Paul L. Perito, Esquire, is Chairman, President and COO of Star Scientific, Inc. (NASDAQ) and Chairman and CEO of its subsidiary, Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Prior to joining Star, Paul was in charge of the Litigation Department at Paul Hastings LLP in D.C. and Chair of the firm’s national Corporate Defense practice. Paul is a former New York AUSA, served in Congress as Chief Counsel and Staff director of the Crime Committee, was appointed to the White House as Chief Counsel and then became the first Deputy Drug Czar confirmed by the Senate in 1972. Paul has served on public company boards and Chairman of non-profit boards.
Paul brings experience as a multi-national litigator and senior executive to evaluate corporate compliance and SOX programs and develop appropriate crisis management action plans. His regulatory and operational knowledge enables Paul to assist businesses in distress from government agency investigations, and media and Congressional inquiries. He has lectured frequently in these areas and testified before multiple Congressional hearings, the WHO, and the UK House of Commons.
Paul is a graduate of the Harvard Law School, where he was an Edward Noble scholar, attended the University of Manchester as Rotary International Scholar and Lund University in Sweden as European Travel Scholar. Paul holds an undergraduate degree, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Tufts University.
